The Fish Fry

This past weekend one of our friends had a fish fry. He lives right on the river and his home is beautiful! It was so relaxing that I forgot to really take pictures. But here are a few that I did remember to take.

My Texas brother, Brad. He's pretty much family.
I made the cake.
State-tri-otic a little?
A cake with the Texas flag in the shape of Texas.
Love it.

Some folks kayaking on the river.
Yes, I did kayak on the river, but I did not get a picture of it.
I saw a snake while out there. Just a little one.

Cory about to go off the rope swing.
Again, this is all in my friend's backyard.

Cory headed to the river!

What a wonderful, relaxing afternoon. I'm just sad I didn't take more pictures!

Kayak Attack

Earlier this week Russ and I took an afternoon to kayak 5 miles down the San Marcos River- From Sewell Park to Old Bastrop Highway. I love this river! I love the serenity of being on this river. I can't wait to do it again! Here are the highlights:

  • I saw a snake. First one I've seen on the river. I was sort of scared, but it was just sunbathing and didn't really move. So I didn't freak out... to bad.
  • Russ only tipped once. But it was a legit tip- he was going about 1,000 mph around a bend in the river and smacked into the embankment. It was a understandable flip. (PS: I have yet to flip my kayak on the river...)
  • Mostly it was just a nice peaceful ride with my sweetheart.
Now here are the pictures (Just to satisfy C's policy of not reading any blogpost unless there's pictures involved):

Russ and I ready to take off!

And there we go!

This is what the river looks like- so relaxing

Hay Bale Goal: Check

When we moved to Texas 3.5 years ago, I had this strange desire to get my picture taken on top of a hay bale. I haven't really had a chance to fulfill this goal... until last Friday. Russ and I spent the day in Fredricksburg and when we passed a bale of hay, I demanded we stop and get out so we could get a picture.

Hike @ Purgatory Creek

I am so grateful for the opportunity that I have to serve the young women in my ward. Last Saturday I took 4 of the girls on an early morning hike. We got a little lost and ended up hiking 4 miles instead of 3. But the girls were troopers and I am so grateful for the time I get to spend with them! Here are some highlights:
I'm guessing this is a Chow lecture moment. As you can tell from Sanora's face, it was fascinating.

We hit a geo cache at the first of the trail. This was my first time geo caching and it was pretty cool to see all the stuff people had left behind.

Thanks Girls!

A Walk in the Neighborhood

There is a cute hill about half a mile from our house and I drive by it every day. Every time I drive by it, I want to walk to it. Today Russ and I did, and it was everything I hoped for.

After a sword fight on top of the hill (I won), looking at fossilized sea shells, and kicking what we suspect to be the chimney of the hobbit that lives in the hill, I slid down the hill and we walked home.

But the adventure wasn't over yet. We found this...

There was no further evidence, and we suspect the turkey vultures have already eaten breakfast. Gross....

So long summer hello winter

Today was perfect. Sunny close to 80 but there was a nice breeze.
Today's field trip took me to Wimberley. A nice way to finish the
week. Now it's off to Utah where I'm sure to freeze.

Cotton Pickin'

After a whirlwind week with the moms they've finally made it home (at
least I assume they have). It was a great visit, we saw and did a lot.
On our way to the airport we visited Christmas town and stopped to
pick some cotton.

What a week

With our last full day with the moms we kept things a little closer to
home. We started the day at the San Marcos Spings. The picture is all
of us looking down into the water. We had classic Texas burgers at the
Center Point Station and watched glass get blow in Wimberley. It been
a great week, we can't wait to do it again.

Back on the farm

Was back at the body farm today for the ribbon cutting. Yep, they
really cut a ribbon. The pictures are the pigs that have been sitting
out since July. Soon there will be people.

Body Farm

People are dying for the chance to decompose in this post card like
setting. Texas State University's body farm is where anthropologists
study how bodies decompose. It sounds gross, it is, but it's really
interesting.

Totally wasted

Gilchrist, Texas is gone. We saw the worst of the storm today. It's
been a long 4 days. Get your 72 hour kits.

Flood of cows

Saw some dead cows today, but a lot more that survived. I wonder what
cows think of a hurricane?

Mountains they aren't

Texas has mountains somewhere I just haven't seen them yet. There are
plenty of hills where we live and I must say that I'm a fan.
