Thursday night I had the opportunity to go to the temple with the youth.
Thursday afternoon I also had the responsibility of recommending punishment for probation violators.
I hadn't thought much about the contrast until I was at the temple, walking the names of people from the baptismal font to the recording area. One name was from the 1500's and I thought about how long she must have waited for the freedom that comes with making the baptismal covenant.
It was at that point I thought back to those sorrowful probationers- looking at time in jail or a few more years of probation.
How distinct the contrast- by day ensuring people stay limited and punished and required to check in and rehabilitate. Then by night working with others to help set them free for eternal salvation.
I do love my job. These folks do need the counseling or jail time or probation that they get.
But the night at the temple is light years more rewarding.

February Flying By!
It seems that every week the Wilde household has had an emergency. Between illness, jury trials, and even the bizarre case of a friend in jail... life is just flashing by!
But there have been great moments of fun and joy. Our little P has 4 teeth and she's chewing on everything for more!
Aside from the buzz of life, things are good. If I could get my sinuses permanently cleared up, I could say that life is great.
In looking ahead, we are getting our garden ready for the coming year. The goal is to plant the first round of seeds on March 4th.
I had a dream last night about my grandmother and her garden. It left me with the most wonderful feeling in the morning and a strong desire to make a large garden like she had. I miss her. And I want to honor the good she did in this world by continuing it.
Well, those are my thoughts for tonight.
Enjoy the last 10 days of February!

Weekend 1
Josh (my PC partner) is pacing back and forth in Roberto's apartment. Roberto is furiously finishing some tax documents (He's a CPA and a law student).
I am relaxing on the couch. Because we just sent our answer for big trial. The weekend is so close. And while I will be spending a large portion of it reviewing documents for big trial, I will also be in San Marcos. I'll be at my friend Michelle's graduation and I'll get to see Russ when he returns from the Father & Sons campout.
Life is Good when the weekend is pending...

When Russ is Late...
When their husband is late coming home from work, some women wonder why.
I just turn on the TV, and I know why!
Fire by our house! Burned 5 acres!
Thanks TV!

Life in the Too-Fast Lane
Yes, school has finally mellowed a little. I mean, it'll be mellow for a few days and then get crazy again. But I'm enjoying a few days of peace.
So here's what I've been up too:
So here's what I've been up too:
This was a rare afternoon when I sat in a hammock for about 5 minutes. It was heaven.
I started playing Words With Friends.
Do you see how many points I got on this one?
111 points!!!
Sadly, I don't have pictures of what I've really been up to.
Which is studying. A lot.
But I am looking forward to a fun weekend and to get back into blogging!
More to come!!!

It's That Day Again...
Normally I LOVE Valentine's Day. Pretty much I love any holiday.
But when in law school, my Valentine's Day consists of this:
"Hey would you like a Tootsie Pop or a Blow Pop?" (Girl in my Practice Court Class)
"...Tootsie Pop. My name is Charmaine" (I had never met her before)
"Oh. Here you go. My name is ____" (I already forgot.)
----------------
Really Russ and I celebrated on Saturday night with a fancy cheese plate. And then Russ made this for me yesterday for Lunch (homemade mustard meatballs, homemade cheesy tomato sauce):

I am just really excited to be done with school and get back to enjoying the holidays. Soon enough Chow....Soon enough. For now, BACK TO WORK! Ramming Speed!

Thoughts on Law School
A few months back I was talking with a friend and lamenting the challenges of law school. I'll be honest, it was a downer conversation. My friend commented that law school was not worth it. This made me think. A lot.
Because I disagreed but I couldn't articulate at the time why I disagreed.
Well, it hit me in Constitutional Law the other day. As we were discussing the history of the Equal Protection Clause. I was marveling (mentally) about the lengths people have gone to in order to protect simple freedoms. Most things that I wouldn't care about. Simple freedoms that take decades to secure.
And then it hit me. Law school is worth it because there are things worth fighting for. Giving your all to protect principles and values that are true to the core. That is worth it. The civility is worth it.
I hope I remember this as I start Practice Court in a few weeks. Practice Court is the hard part of Bayor Law School. It's an intensive training in the courtroom. Part of me is terrified. A small part of me is excited. No matter what, it will be worth it in the end.

Laundry day
Last week it was air boats and hurricanes. This week it's just plain
old laundry. No excitement here.

Fitting
Between work, water mains, and the lumber store when I got home
tonight it just seemed right that Chow was watching "Scream".
