How I get Through Finals

Yesterday I took my big final. The BIG one. It was a long week. And this is how I survived:

Studying at the school and observing fellow classmates. 

This is Tefteller. He's wearing a headband. And he's proud of it.

Dinner with friends. Prince Eric's fortune said, "You will get the desires of your heart"

The other side said "mustache"

I think that's a hint Prince Eric: Grow a mustache.

Receiving funny texts from Russ. Yes he swore again. On accident. 

But it always makes me smile.

And that is how you get through finals at Baylor Law School. 

That and a lot of studying. 

Now to do some laundry and put my house back in order so I can enjoy my summer!

Life in the Too-Fast Lane

Yes, school has finally mellowed a little. I mean, it'll be mellow for a few days and then get crazy again. But I'm enjoying a few days of peace.

So here's what I've been up too:

This was a rare afternoon when I sat in a hammock for about 5 minutes. It was heaven.

I started playing Words With Friends. 

Do you see how many points I got on this one? 

111 points!!!

Sadly, I don't have pictures of what I've really been up to.

Which is studying. A lot.

But I am looking forward to a fun weekend and to get back into blogging!

Thoughts on Law School

 A few months back I was talking with a friend and lamenting the challenges of law school. I'll be honest, it was a downer conversation. My friend commented that law school was not worth it. This made me think. A lot.

Because I disagreed but I couldn't articulate at the time why I disagreed.

Well, it hit me in Constitutional Law the other day. As we were discussing the history of the Equal Protection Clause. I was marveling (mentally) about the lengths people have gone to in order to protect simple freedoms. Most things that I wouldn't care about. Simple freedoms that take decades to secure.

And then it hit me. Law school is worth it because there are things worth fighting for. Giving your all to protect principles and values that are true to the core. That is worth it. The civility is worth it.

I hope I remember this as I start Practice Court in a few weeks. Practice Court is the hard part of Bayor Law School. It's an intensive training in the courtroom. Part of me is terrified. A small part of me is excited. No matter what, it will be worth it in the end.

How Legal Research Makes Me Feel:

Wednesdays...

Are awful. It's the middle of the week. There's nothing fun going on in Waco (is there ever something fun?). It's been 2 days since I've seen Russ and I won't see him for another 2 days. Maybe 3 days this week depending on how long my research project takes to finish.

So... this will get me through this day:

Researching in the Library.

Documentary

On Sunday Russ suggested we watch this documentary. I was not in the mood for a documentary (On Sunday I like to take a break from the world- not watch some movie about how crazy it is). But tonight I was desperate to procrastinate studying. So I watched this movie:

Japan Baby: That little girl cried a lot. She's in a room full of toys and refuses to be satiated. In the meantime the Mongolian baby is happy as a clam eating paper.

Mongolian Baby: This little dude got into a lot of trouble in his first year! It was like every time we saw him he was playing and happy and spills something. Next thing you know he's getting yelled at and spanked and it has no effect on him. Because he has NO CLUE that this is punishment. Oh, and it really sucked when he tipped his stroller.
Plus, what a jerk of a big brother! Hitting him with a scarf, driving the little dude out to the middle of a cow pasture in his stroller! Poor guy! If he makes it to adulthood he'll probably be a world leader.

Africa Baby: As far as rapid growth and motor skills, this kid ended up way ahead of the other babies. He was running when he turned 1 and had begun learning to balance pots on his head. What a champ! Although, he did spend a lot of time lying in dirt and muddy water. I think he even ate dirt at one point. But he could take care of himself pretty much by the time he turned 1. He could even speak in the click-clack language with his mom. I was very impressed.

US Baby: US Baby, you got the most parental attention of any of these babies. But what's with naked mom hot tubing? Is that a thing? And the chanting class? Huh?!? Who takes their baby to a chanting class? Other than that, this baby was the most boring. Probably because I've seen it a hundred times before, probably because the other babies had siblings that tortured them. All in all seems like US babies have it pretty good.

Well I've successfully procrastinated another night of study (it's only the second week into the quarter, so it's not too big of a deal). What can I watch tomorrow to procrastinate studying?

Study Break!

Day One

Went well. I should be sleeping, but couldn't help but write a brief note.

I have thus far enjoyed my law school experience. I was not called on today (tomorrow could be different).

Russ has taken great care of me. My face melted after I said goodbye to him tonight. We haven't parted voluntarily like this since... well I went to Hawai'i on my mission. Saying goodbye was so hard then- it was magnified so much today.

School is a sacrifice. I've seen it in my sibling's marriages and now I'm experiencing it.

And really any separation is. I can't imagine how it must be to be the wife of a solider and constantly be saying goodbye and looking forward to an unknown future.

Well. I better get some sleep. I'm sure I'll have nightmares of being asked to explain Battery tomorrow.

The sun rose

Chow survived the LSAT. We enjoyed GenConf. Now we just have to get
Austin ready for our Moms.

Ready for the test

After months of studying Chow takes the LSAT in the morning. She spent
the day relaxing with friends, checking out the test center, and
lounging in the hotel room. We both have to be on campus at UT early
in the morning so we're staying in Austin. The room has sleep number
beds, I can't wait to sleep.

Magic beans

For the past... It seems like forever, Chow has been getting ready to
take the LSAT. Today she got a new study aid, prescription strength
skittles. Her favorite are the purple ones. According to the
instructions they are "just to make you smile".

House student

Chow quit her job and is now a full time student. In addition to
studying for the LSAT she has time keep the house clean and paint her
face blue.
